Welcome to the inaugural edition of our quarterly women in solar newsletter.
Our organization was founded in 2012 with the goal of providing a unified voice for women in the industry, as well as solidifying a formal organization to support the recruitment and retention of women in solar.
Women have made remarkable strides in gender equality in the energy industry and beyond, but we all know the fight is far from over.
For those of you who have attended Solar Power International and Intersolar, it's hard to miss the ever increasing "booth babe" culture. That's why last year, our organization worked hard to negotiate with SolarEnergy Trade Shows to moderate booth babe attire and set a dress code for the industry’s biggest conference, Solar Power International. We still have a lot of work left to do on this front, and we will continue to work on behalf of women in our industry to tackle this issue.
We're not just about battling booth babe culture. This year, we are making more strides to advance professional opportunities for women in our industry by adding more structure to our organization. In addition to our quarterly newsletter, we filed for official 501c3 non-profit status, are hosting professional networking events at PV America and SPI and in your hometown, will launch a robust inaugural award program, and we are elevating the discourse on gender issues in the workplace. Our work is only just beginning, and we look forward to having you join us as we unify the industry around this discussion.
What else are you looking for out of in the first structured professional networking group exclusively dedicated to women in the solar industry? Please complete a short survey to let us know how we can best suit your needs in 2014 and beyond.
